Leaving La Crosse

When I left Albany in December I’d never really moved away from home, you know? I’d flirted with it by living in Plattsburgh one summer, but I knew I was coming back sooner rather than later. I didn’t understand leaving. I now know what it’s like to leave somewhere you’ve lived.

Saturday, I’m leaving La Crosse. I won’t live here again. I won’t work here again. Chances of driving through are pretty slim, even, as 94 lets me bypass it on the way to the Twin Cities, where I’ll be planting my flag next.

I certainly won’t pine for it the way I have Albany, sometimes, but it will leave a void that will take a while to fill.

RIP, Whiskers

She was 16 years old when she passed away the other day at my sister’s place. She was a great cat, except when she’d nip your fingers. ;)

A survivor too. She was attacked by a raccoon!
